Terry Baltes and Hotel Guest Satisfaction Figures Released For 2016

According to information from the J.D. Power 2016 North America Hotel Guest Satisfaction Index Study, growth in guest satisfaction in many areas of the hotel industry seems to have stagnated. This comes at a time where individuals who stay at hotels have increasingly become accustomed to amenities which used to hold special value, such as complementary breakfast and free Wi-Fi.

The J.D. Power study has been around for two decades now and provides guest satisfaction metrics across various hotel segments, ranging from economy to luxury. Guest satisfaction takes into account factors such as the hotel’s facilities, rooms and cost. It is calculated on a scale going up to 1,000 points. Industry-wide satisfaction has grown in 2016, reaching an average of 806, which is 2 points higher than the previous year. While the score has been improving in the last few years, the rate at which it has been doing so has slowed down.

This can be explained by some perks becoming standard across all segments, which leads guests to no longer see any added value to them. Free Wi-Fi, breakfast and parking have been named as the most important amenities that a hotel can provide by guests participating in the study. Industry experts believe that hotels can set their brand apart from the rest by working on improving the service level and making every guest feel appreciated during their stay.
