Paramount Bets Ology Series to be Next Box Office Hits
Would a series of movies based upon the study of mysterious subjects like vampires, knights, and Egypt make millions? 105 year old studio, Paramount Pictures is betting on it. After acquiring the rights to the Ology book series by Dugald Steer, Paramount set about recruiting the hottest writers in today’s film industry to turn these counter culture themed fictional encyclopedias into a series to rival the Marvel and DC comics pictures.
With titles like Wizardology, Pirateology, Monsterology, Dragonology, Egyptology, Knightology, Spyology, Alienology, and Mythology, the Steer’s Ology series offers lots of creative potential for Paramount Pictures. This includes the opportunity to develop their own interwoven movie series similar to that of the Avengers. The studio hinted at the possibility of seven films based upon ‘a research institute, where the fringe sciences that no one else takes seriously are studied in earnest.’
To pull off such a complex multi film storyline, Paramount has recruited Beautiful Mind’s writer Akiva Goldsman, Transformers’ Christina Hodson, and Lindsey Beer. The addition of Guardian of the Galaxy’s Nicole Perlman, Black Panther’s Joe R. Cole, and Pulitzer winner Michael Chabon to the group gives these films the potential to be action packed, have amazing visual effects, and feature award winning scripts.
So how long before these films debut in theatres? It’s too early to tell. Paramount shared the first step is to get writers and visual artists to put together character and story outlines for the films. With Akiva Goldsman, Geoff Stier, and Greg Lessans overseeing and producing, it shouldn’t be too long before they are into production and onto the big screen.
